The Clinical Research Unit (CRU) and Study Collaboration & Opportunities Teams (SCOT) recently spent the day on-site at Eccles Health Sciences Education Building for our Annual Clinical Skills & Professional Development Day, February 19th. The event incorporated a variety of adult learning techniques, including interactive lectures, live demonstrations, hands-on training, and even a game designed to reinforce team-building in a dynamic way. Invited presenters from hospital colleagues were Denise Marlowe, PT, CEAS III, for ‘Transfer Training’; Kate Parker, MS RN CCRN UMN, and Hilarey Mills, MA, from Nursing Informatics, for ‘Epic Training’; and Sydney Kronaizl, MS, CCLS, from Primary Children’s Hospital, for ‘Child Life Services: Comfort Techniques’. Trainings covered eight topics of clinical competencies. Attendees could earn 6.75 contact hours as organized by our Clinical Nurse Educator, Brittany King. Staff highlights included ‘Mock Code’ training (CRU clinical staff), and ‘Technostress: What, Why, and How to Manage’ (SCOT research professionals). Post-training surveys confirmed the success of Skills Day. Attendees reported increased confidence in clinical skills, valuable hands-on learning, and an engaging experience that enhanced their professional development.
