Louisa Stark Called to White House Precision Medicine Initiative Summit

Louisa Stark, Ph.D., key investigator with the CCTS Collaboration and Engagement Team, and director of the Genetic Science Learning Center (GSLC) was called to the White House Precision Medicine Initiative Summit to discuss her expertise in the following areas:

  • The CCTS Collaboration and Engagement Team’s participation in the Community Faces of Utah group (including Best of Africa, Calvary Baptist Church, the Hispanic Health Care Task Force, the National Tongan American Society, the Urban Indian Center, the Utah Department of Health and the Utah CCTS), and our facilitation of research-community collaborations on research studies.
  • U of U’s outstanding expertise in genetics, including our long history of genetics-related research discoveries, the UPDB, the UGP, our work in creating easy-to-understand informed consent documents and process (including the use of multimedia materials developed by the GSLC).
  • U of U’s strong experience with conducting clinical trials, including the National Children’s Study, experienced research leaders, and the willingness of Utah’s citizens to participate and remain in trials and to adhere to the protocols.
  • Utah’s culture, with families who are altruistic and willing to participate in research.
  • New Precision Medicine materials to be launched soon on the GSLC's Learn.Genetics website.
