Partnering for Better Health:
Bringing Utah’s Patient Voices to Research #PBHutah2016
The Utah Partnership for Value and Utah’s Annual Health Services Research (HSR) Meeting hosted by Intermountain Healthcare and the University of Utah’s CCTS are working with diverse community‐based organizations and stakeholders to design an innovative day‐long conference that will focus on improving patient engagement and patient centered outcomes in Utah. Patients/ caregivers, students, researchers, providers, policymakers, and payors are invited to the event to:
1) Identify and prioritize questions related to patient‐centered outcomes for Utah that are important to all stakeholders;
2) Share best practices that facilitate patient engagement and increased identification and utilization of patient reported measures;
3) Disseminate patient‐centered findings in order to raise awareness and improve understanding of the value of integrating researchers in the health care community to address the patient, provider, payor, and community perspectives;
4) Promote health services research in Utah; and
5) Facilitate interaction and communication among individuals interested in patient‐centered health services research.
The event is being co‐designed with stakeholders from Intermountain Healthcare, the University of Utah’s CCTS, Community Faces of Utah, Salt Lake Interfaith Roundtable, and the Utah Health Policy Project. Our program features presentations and facilitated discussion. Participants will engage in breakout sessions to address health services research questions as well as provide community member input into research design, inquiry, and ongoing participation. In addition to abstract presentations and research panels, breakout sessions will include:
- Patient and caregiver panel to provide opportunities for researchers and providers to understand perspectives on effective patient engagement;
- Research and community representatives to discuss improving community awareness and identifying barriers for patient‐centered outcomes research in Utah;
- Discussion of challenges faced by patients due to faith and religious beliefs, and the integration of spiritual and religious preferences into the healthcare system to promote patient engagement;
- Barriers to health literacy on patient centered outcomes and how to break down those barriers; and
- Sharing of best practices to support patient‐centered outcomes before, during, and after health care encounters.
Commitment to Patient Engagement
This uniquely blended meeting of diverse attendees maintains a strong commitment to ensure an atmosphere of inclusiveness so all feel welcome to participate and engage in meaningful discussion and identification of research questions. This meeting will demonstrate ways that all stakeholders can become active in the research process, thus influencing more patient‐centered, meaningful research that can be sustained by the broader healthcare community. Research abstracts, messaging, and breakout session materials will be developed to ensure jargon‐free, consumer-friendly language.
