Outreach

The Salt Lake Center for Science Education (SLCSE) is collaborating with the Utah Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) to introduce a unique program known as SLCSE-BEES (Boosting Engagement through Experiences in Science).

SLCSE is a small high school located in Salt Lake City which prides itself on serving a diverse student population in terms of ethnicity and socioeconomic status. The school boasts an impressive graduation rate of nearly 100%, with most students completing four years of math and science education. Furthermore, students who enroll in Advanced Placement courses represent the full spectrum of the school’s demographics.

One of the objectives of SLCSE is to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world applications. Consequently, the school is enthusiastic about forming new partnerships with the University of Utah. These collaborations may involve guest speakers in classrooms, facilitating visits to university labs, arranging student internships, and other mentorship opportunities. The belief at SLCSE is that providing an excellent and relevant education requires the active involvement of the entire community.

Throughout the year, various opportunities to engage with students and faculty at SLCSE will become available. Access these opportunities through an interactive Google spreadsheet. Simply click on the item that piques your interest, and you will be redirected to details for that opportunity, including the request, grade level, and calendar dates.

The depth and breadth of expertise available at the University go far beyond what a high school teacher could envision. If you possess knowledge or resources that could be transformed into a valuable learning experience for our students, we enthusiastically welcome your input and collaboration.  Please do not hesitate to reach out to us, we are eager to explore possibilities that can benefit our students.
