EPIC -> REDCap CDIS
You can now request direct integration of Epic data into REDCap projects for research. Use of EMR data requires Institutional Review Board approval for research projects. The Biomedical Informatics Core will host information sessions and office hours starting in January 2026. Research teams should schedule a project review to confirm eligibility and begin onboarding. The BMIC will host an initial Epic-REDCap CDIS launch information session Tuesday January 20th at 12pm MT.

Epic–REDCap integration uses Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) through Clinical Data Interoperability Services (CDIS), enabling REDCap projects to securely interact with Epic.
Getting Started
Discuss your REDCap project with the BMIC team at the initial meeting. Clinical Data Mart or Clinical Data Pull is use case driven and reviewed for feasibility. The BMIC team will provide guidance to the study team on proper configuration of the REDCap project which must be completed before either process is used. Service recharge options are available for BMIC configuration and build when needed.
Request CDIS through the REDCap Helpdesk when you are ready. A CDIS request form will be emailed to the PI for review and approval.
Epic MyChart Recruitment Updates
The Clinical Research Support Office and the Biomedical Informatics Core announce a new additional self-serve method to utilize Epic SlicerDicer and Reporting Workbench to enable MyChart recruiting for research studies. The CRSO and BMIC will host an information session Wednesday Jan 14th at noon via zoom. Connection details will be announced across CRSO and BMIC list serves.
This new feature allows for study teams to create a recruitment query using the required query template. Study teams with SliderDicer proficiency and training to utilize these tools prior to requesting the new self-serve options can jump start their recruitment initiatives at no cost. Service recharge options and referral remain available where complex cohort queries require it.

The basic steps to start your recruitment process are the same with the additional option to identify your participants with this new functionality. Requesting these options are processed in service-now and follow the same guidelines for MyChart recruitment.
