Level Descriptions

PhD Level

SDBC members at the PhD level are generally expected to play leadership roles within the center, and engage in methodological research and collaborative science in one or more of the following areas: high dimensional data, modern causal inference, survival analysis, generalized linear and nonlinear mixed modeling, longitudinal methods, Bayesian modeling, computational statistics, and item response theory and other psychometric methods.

Requirements

Candidates should have a PhD in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, or related field and have exhibited excellence, or excellent potential, in research with a proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Strong programming skills in R and/or SAS are required. Both entry level and experienced PhD’s may be considered.

MS Biostatistician Position

The SDBC greatly values the contributions of its MS level statisticians and epidemiologists, and provides excellent opportunities for professional development and leadership responsibilities at this level. We seek candidates who are able work effectively in a multidisciplinary group in study design, statistical programming, analysis of data, and statistical graphics, and who convey a genuine interest in biomedical research. SDBC MS statisticians and epidemiologists collaborate with investigators to determine questions of interest and data needed to address those questions, write detailed analysis plans, and carry out statistical analyses and interpret analysis results.

Requirements

Candidates should have a MS in statistics, biostatistics, or related field. At least three years of experience in a biomedical research setting is desired. Demonstrated expertise in statistical software (e.g, R, SAS, and/or STATA) is required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.

SDBC at the University of Utah

The Study Design and Biostatistics Center (SDBC), is the Statistical Core of the Clinical and Translational Science Institute at the University of Utah and provides a rich environment for methodological and applied biomedical research across the university. Focus areas of SDBC faculty include clinical trials, longitudinal analysis, survival analysis, epidemiologic modeling, Bayesian analysis, modern causal inference, structural equations models, item response theory, computational statistics and high throughput methods, analysis of biomarkers, statistical genetics and statistical genomics.
